The Stage Newspaper Scholarship is available annually to one girl and one boy.
The David Essex OBE Scholarship is Awarded Annually to one boy.
Qualifications Gained: Professional 3 Year Musical Theatre Diploma, Full Equity Membership.
Optional Teacher Training (extra-curricular, fee payable): Teacher Training for Qualifications with the International Dance Teachers Association is available in Classical Ballet, Tap, Jazz and Freestyle Dance. These take place as evening courses.
The first year of the Course is aimed at Techniques and Self-discovery. It introduces various techniques in all three genres Dance, Singing and Acting supported by Contextual Studies. It enables the student to develop strength and awareness of weaknesses in both technique and performance as well as building stamina and confidence. Subjects will include Ballet, Tap, Jazz, Contemporary, Pilates, Voice, Singing (Ensemble Singing and Private Individual), Acting (utilising practitioners such as Hagen and Stanislavski), Improvisational Techniques, Musical Theatre, Choreographic Development, Notation, History of Musical Theatre, Fitness Health & Safety (Contextual Studies) and Performance Class.
In the second year core skills from Year One are continued to be developed and strengthened to a higher level. Students have subjects added to their timetable for example Latin and Ballroom, Stage Combat and Acting through Song to broaden their knowledge and understanding of the many disciplines required to be a Musical Theatre Performer. Second Year students have the opportunity to audition for a short play and musical culminating in a performance in our Studio Theatre.
The Third year focuses on Performance, aiming to achieve realisation and delivery of a professional approach and attitude in all aspects of performance of Dance, Acting and Singing. The Third Year works as a company performing many productions in our Studio Theatre and several prestigious venues outside the College throughout the year. Students have access to Master Classes from leading Agents, Casting Directors, Choreographers, Directors, as well focusing on their Professional Development which includes classes in ‘Branding’ and how to Market themselves within the Industry. The Third year has the emphasis on preparing the student for a smooth transition from the College to the Industry.
